Kuala Berang, Terengganu, 28 November 2021 – PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) today organised the Consumer Safety Campaign in collaboration with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (MDTCA) here at PETRONAS Station Kuala Berang, Terengganu.
The Campaign is part of PDB’s efforts to raise awareness among the public, especially students, on safety measures to observe and undertake when at petrol stations and on the road. Towards this end, a safety briefing was conducted to secondary school students, focusing on road safety as well as the danger of modified engines in cars and motorcycles.
The Campaign was launched by the Deputy Minister of MDTCA, YB Dato’ Hj Rosol bin Wahid alongside PDB Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Azrul Osman Rani.
YB Dato’ Rosol said, “This campaign is in line with the Ministry’s role through the Petroleum Safety Unit, which is responsible in overseeing safety issues to prepare and update policies, acts and regulations, particularly the Petroleum (Safety Measures) Act 1984. The discipline of maintaining safety at petrol stations, for example, lies not only on the shoulders of the Government or the operators of petrol stations, but also requires the cooperation and involvement of the community as a whole.”
In line with promoting Kuala Berang as an e-wallet hub, a RM10 Setel e-voucher was given out during the event to 500 participants, comprising secondary school students and customers. The Setel mobile application provides customers a seamless and frictionless experience in purchasing fuel and items from Kedai Mesra, allowing them to earn and redeem Mesra points from the app. This helps customers minimise contact while making transactions during the pandemic, in line with our promise of making their lives simpler and better.
At the event, Azrul said, “This collaboration with the Ministry is one of our continuous efforts in embedding a safety-first mindset amongst our customers. We also work very closely with our station dealers to ensure that all safety aspects within the station follow the standards of the established safety guidelines to provide our customers a safe and comfortable refueling experience.”
Additionally, all PETRONAS stations have been identified as the Go-To-Safety-Point for the public in time of distress or emergencies. PETRONAS station dealers and staff have all been trained in giving out basic first aid as well as assistance should there be any untoward incidents.
PDB also announced during the event that its Kedai Mesra now sells COVID-19 self-test kits for the convenience of its customers. Apart from that, the Kedai Mesra also promotes a variety of local products in line with the Ministry’s aim of encouraging more Malaysians to buy local.
