Jalinan Kasih PETRONAS - Tired, but Happy!

Mohd Naquib is the eldest of 3 siblings at 10 years old. Like many others his age, he attends school and is at the end of his 4th year in Primary School. He looks like the average kid, with the exception of his worn out and one size too small shoes. It’s the same pair of shoes he wore last year.

So, it comes as no surprise that Mohd Naquib was one of 200 school children chosen to be part of PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad’s Retail Station Dealers community programme aptly titled - ‘Jalinan Kasih’, which was held on 15 October 2005 in Johor Bahru. 97 Retail Station Dealers from throughout Johor decided to ‘adopt’ 200 school children for the day and take them shopping for the coming Raya festivities.

On that day, Naquib, along with 200 other children from impoverished families, gathered at Station PETRONAS Km11, Jalan Skudai, to be briefed on the agenda for the day.

And then they were off to a shopping trip by their foster parents (the Dealers), at Plaza Angsana, JB. On the list of items to get: shoes, baju melayu and casual attire for a day out on Raya day.

What is the first item on Naquib’s mind when asked what he wanted for Raya? Shoes! So off we go to the BATA outlet at Plaza Angsana and it seems that Naquib was not the only one who wanted shoes! The shop is abuzz with activity as the children had fun picking out shoes from the many on display.

Next stop, KAMDAR, the clothing wholesaler for baju melayu and the many accoutrements. The children had a wonderful time being attended to by store staffs as they tried out various outfits. Naquib also got into the action, picking out some clothes which were to his liking.

All in all, it was a tiring 3 hours of frantic shopping and soon, everyone was carrying bags of goodies all sponsored by the Dealers. At 4pm, everyone made their way to Masjid Sultan Abu Bakar for the Buka Puasa with their families and the Dealers. The event was graced by Dato’ Omar Awab (Yg Dipertua Jabatan Agama Islam Johor) and Dato’ Mohd Noh Gadot (Mufti Besar Negeri Johor).

At the end of the day, the smile on Naquib’s face says it all... Thanks to PETRONAS! And the Dealers in Johor!
