PETRONAS PRIMAX 97: Fact Sheet
PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 is a newly enhanced RON 97 fuel, which offers motorists more power, better acceleration and fuel economy benefits. PETRONAS PRIMAX 97, which replaces the current RON 97 fuel PRIMAX 3 is formulated for superior engine performance and is suitable for all vehicles with a minimum requirement of RON 97 or below.
PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 is further enhanced with SINAR G-07 additive package that contains three main ‘active chemicals’:
- Friction modifier, that acts to reduce friction between surfaces in the engine cylinders as well as protect the engine’s components.
- Combustion improver that acts to reduce engine emissions levels and improves engine performance.
- Fuel Detergent, a deposit control additive to clean fuel system components (carburettors, fuel injectors, inlet valves) and prevents deposit formation therefore maintaining optimum engine performance.
PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 conforms to Euro 2-M specifications:
- PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 has been formulated with reduced sulphur content of 500 parts per million (ppm), to meet the strict Euro 2-M petrol standards.
- The lower sulphur content will contribute to a reduction of sulphur dioxide (SOx) emission and therefore be less harmful to the air.
Nationwide availability:
- PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 is currently available at more than 300 PETRONAS Stations nationwide.
PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is PETRONAS PRIMAX 97?
PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 is formulated with SINAR G07 additive for engines that are designed to operate with a minimum requirement of RON 97 fuel to achieve optimum engine performance.
PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 contains a reduced sulphur content of 500 parts per million (ppm), to meet the strict Euro 2M petrol standards. The lower sulphur content as per Euro 2M formulations will contribute to a reduction in sulphur dioxide (SOx) emission, and therefore be less harmful to the air.
Similar to PETRONAS PRIMAX 95, the additive package also includes three main active chemicals namely Friction Modifier, Combustion Improver and Fuel Detergent to provide more power, simultaneously better acceleration and better fuel economy.
2. What are the functions of the three main active chemicals in SINAR G07 additive?
The combination of the three main active chemicals further enhances the fuel to give more superior engine performance. Friction Modifier reduces friction to improve engine efficiency, Combustion Improver enhances the overall engine efficiency and fuel detergent cleans and maintains engine cleanliness to ensure optimum engine performance.
The advanced additive in all PETRONAS’ fuels protects engine components and enhances the overall engine efficiency by preventing the build up of deposits that degrade the engine’s performance. As a result, better fuel economy can be attained, with a reduction of SOx emission.
3. Can my vehicle use PETRONAS PRIMAX 97?
PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 is compatible with all standard gasoline vehicles sold in Malaysia with a minimum requirement of RON 97 or lower to experience its optimum engine performance benefit.
Please refer to your vehicle’s manual for your vehicle’s recommended octane rating. Alternatively, you could also check with your vehicle manufacturer or with an authorized vehicle distributor.
4. What are the benefits of PETRONAS PRIMAX 97?
PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 fuel delivers more power, simultaneously better acceleration and better fuel economy.
5. Can PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 increase the power of my car?
Based on the vehicle power output and acceleration performance test conducted at PROTON vehicle testing facility in Shah Alam, PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 recorded up to 3% more power.
6. How many times do I need to fill up with PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 before I can feel the power & acceleration difference?
In general, drivers will experience the difference the moment they switch to PETRONAS PRIMAX 97. Experience results may vary from one vehicle to another depending on the driving condition as well as engine performance.
7. Will PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 give me better fuel economy?
Yes, PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 offers better fuel economy. PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 fuel economy performance tested at Millbrook Testing Centre, UK recorded up to 4.9% better fuel economy. The fuel economy testing was based on a Public Road Simulation (PRS) cycle that represented various driving patterns including highway, urban and extra urban.
8. What are the key differences between PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 and its ‘predecessor’ fuel, PRIMAX 3?
PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 is the latest formulation that has been enhanced with SINAR G07 additive to deliver more power, faster acceleration and better fuel economy compared to PRIMAX 3.
9. What are the key differences between PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 and PETRONAS PRIMAX 95?
The numbers 95 and 97 are the minimum research octane number (RON) value of a fuel required to prevent engine knocking. It determines petrol’s ‘anti knock’ quality or resistance to pre-ignition or detonation as it burns in the combustion chamber. A car engine can perform efficiently when it uses the correct minimum RON value.
It is highly recommended to refer to your vehicle’s manual or the back of the petrol tank lid of your vehicle for the correct RON rating.
Alternatively, you could also refer to your vehicle manufacturer or with an authorized vehicle distributor.
10. Between PETRONAS PRIMAX 95 and PRIMAX 97, which one should I choose?
All PETRONAS fuels have been designed and formulated with premium quality base fuel and further enhanced with Friction Modifier, Combustion Improver and Fuel Detergent.
PETRONAS PRIMAX 95 fuel is recommended for vehicles with the minimum requirement of RON 95 and PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 fuel is recommended for vehicles with a minimum requirement of RON 97. When choosing the right fuel, you need to ensure that the fuel meets the minimum recommended RON requirements for your vehicle’s engine.
11. If I have been using PETRONAS PRIMAX 95 all this while, will my car experience any side effects if I switched to PETRONAS PRIMAX 97?
Your car will not experience any side effects as long as your vehicle’s engine meets or exceeds the minimum requirement of RON 95 or lower as fuels with higher RON specifications can be used in lower engine models.
Engines with higher fuel specifications, however, will not be compatible to be fuelled with lower fuel specifications. For example, a Euro 4 engine will not be compatible with a Euro 1 specification fuel. Please refer to your vehicle’s manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer or an authorised vehicle distributor to determine you car’s minimum RON value requirement.
12. Can I mix different octane fuel grades?
Yes. However, you should ensure that the fuel meets or exceeds the minimum RON required by your vehicle’s engine.
13. Is PETRONAS PRIMAX 97 available at all PETRONAS Stations nationwide?
